Prefilled vapes: the complete UK buyer guide
By the Prefilled Vapes Outlet team. We test every kit we stock on our own desks and in our pockets. Last reviewed May 2026.
A prefilled vape is a rechargeable device that uses sealed pods already filled with e liquid. You charge the battery, click in a 2ml pod, vape until it runs dry, then swap in a fresh one. It is the simple, low waste, fully legal middle ground between fiddly refillable tanks and the disposables that the UK banned in June 2025.
We sell prefilled pods every day and we use them ourselves, so this guide comes from real hands on time with the kit. We will explain what a prefilled vape is, who it suits, and exactly how to pick one. No hype, no filler.

What is a prefilled vape and how does it work?
A prefilled vape, sometimes called a closed pod system, pairs a rechargeable battery with replaceable pods. Each pod arrives sealed and pre filled with e liquid and has the coil built in. There is nothing to measure, pour or wipe up.
When the flavour fades or the pod empties, you pull it out and push in a new one. The battery itself keeps going for months. This is why a prefilled vape sits firmly on the legal side of the line: it is reusable, not a single use throwaway.
Who does a prefilled vape suit?
These kits suit people who liked the ease of a disposable but want something that lasts. They are excellent for adults moving away from smoking who want a quick, mouth to lung draw without learning to build coils or fill tanks.
They also suit busy people. There is no leaking bottle in your bag and no buttons to learn. If you want flavour and a satisfying throat hit with the least possible fuss, a closed pod system is usually the answer.
We also see a lot of returning vapers who used disposables before the ban and want that same point and puff feel. A prefilled kit delivers it, only it lasts for months rather than days. The familiarity is a big part of why people stick with these kits once they switch.

How to choose a prefilled vape
Five things decide whether a kit feels great or frustrating. Run through each before you buy.
-
Battery capacity (mAh)
Battery is measured in mAh. A compact kit around 400 to 600mAh is pocket friendly and fine for a light day. If you vape often or want to charge less, look for 800mAh or more, which can comfortably see most people through a full day.
-
Pod capacity and coil type
UK pods are capped at 2ml, so capacity is fixed by law. What varies is the coil. Mesh coils heat liquid evenly and tend to give brighter flavour and smoother vapour, which is why we favour mesh pods on test.
-
Nicotine strength
Strength runs up to the UK ceiling of 20mg per ml. Many ex smokers start at 20mg nic salt for a firm throat hit, then step down to 10mg as cravings ease. Lighter smokers often find 10mg is plenty from day one.
-
Flavour and draw
Flavour is personal, but fruit, menthol and tobacco profiles remain the steady favourites. Most prefilled kits give a tight mouth to lung draw that mimics a cigarette, which is exactly what most newcomers want.
Draw resistance is worth a mention too. A tighter draw feels closer to a cigarette and tends to suit ex smokers, while a slightly looser draw gives more vapour. Most prefilled kits sit on the tighter end, and on test that is what keeps the experience satisfying without coughing.

What the 2026 duty means for value
From 1 October 2026 a Vaping Products Duty adds 2.20 pounds per 10ml of e liquid before VAT, roughly 2.64 pounds with VAT. It is charged on volume of liquid, not nicotine, and it covers nicotine free liquid too.
This actually flatters prefilled pods. A 2ml pod carries a small slice of duty, while a big bottle of shortfill carries far more because it holds so much more liquid. From October, every compliant product will also show a duty stamp on the retail packaging.
Your prefilled vape buying checklist
Tick these off and you will land on a kit you actually enjoy.
- Battery that matches your habit: 400 to 600mAh for light use, 800mAh or more for all day vaping.
- Mesh coil pods for the best flavour and smoothest vapour.
- A nicotine strength that suits you, up to the 20mg per ml UK limit.
- A flavour family you already know you like, such as fruit, menthol or tobacco.
- A rechargeable, MHRA notified device with a USB charge port.
- From October 2026, a visible duty stamp on the retail packaging.

Are prefilled pods worth it?
For most UK vapers in 2026, yes. You get the grab and go simplicity of a disposable, but the device lasts, the waste is far lower, and the duty hits your 2ml pods gently. That is a strong combination of convenience, cost and compliance.
Compliance and safety
Every prefilled vape we sell is notified to the MHRA and built to TPD and TRPR standards, with 2ml pods, a 20mg per ml nicotine ceiling, and the required health warnings. We run age verified checkout, secure UK payment, and UK based dispatch. For official guidance you can read GOV.UK vaping pages, check the MHRA notification database, or contact Trading Standards and the Chartered Trading Standards Institute.
Frequently asked questions
-
What is a prefilled pod system?
A prefilled pod system is a rechargeable device that takes sealed pods already filled with e liquid. When a pod runs out you click in a fresh one rather than refilling it yourself. Pods hold up to 2ml at up to 20mg per ml of nicotine, which keeps them inside UK legal limits.
-
Are prefilled vapes better than disposables?
They are reusable, so they survive the disposable ban that started on 1 June 2025 and they create far less waste. You recharge the battery and swap pods, which usually costs less per puff than buying a new sealed device each time. The draw and flavour are very similar.
-
How long does a prefilled pod last?
A 2ml pod typically lasts a day or two of moderate use, roughly a pack of cigarettes worth of vaping. Heavier vapers get through one faster. The coil inside most pods stays crisp for the whole pod, so the flavour holds up right to the final puff.
-
How do I choose a prefilled vape?
Match the battery to your habit, pick mesh coil pods for better flavour, and choose a nicotine strength up to the 20mg per ml limit that suits you. Then settle on a flavour family you like. Buying a rechargeable, MHRA notified kit covers the legal side automatically.
-
What nicotine strength should I start with?
Many ex smokers begin at 20mg per ml nic salt for a firm throat hit, then step down to 10mg as cravings settle. Lighter smokers often find 10mg is enough from the start. There is no single right answer, so adjust to how your throat and cravings feel.
-
Are prefilled pods worth it after the 2026 tax?
Yes for most people. The duty is charged by volume, so a small 2ml pod carries far less tax than a large shortfill bottle. Combined with the low waste and grab and go convenience, prefilled pods stay one of the better value everyday choices in 2026.
-
Do prefilled pods leak?
A well made pod should not leak in normal use because the liquid is sealed inside with the coil. You can reduce any chance of spit back by taking steady draws and storing the device upright. We test for leaking before we list a kit on the site.
-
Can I use any pod with any device?
No. Pods are designed for a specific kit, so you buy the matching replacement pods for your device. Mixing brands rarely fits well and can leak. Each product page on our site lists exactly which pods pair with which device to keep it simple.
